The musicians of the San Francisco Jazz band have wanted to pay homage to this prolific composer and to his remarkable sense of melody and chord progressions. They have tried to be faithful to his compositions – some famous and some less well-known – while playing them in their own style, marked by the influence of Turk Murphy and Californian traditional jazz.

In 2009, the “VIEIL ORLEANS ORCHESTRA” decided to celebrate the 50th birthday of Sydney Bechet’s death but in its own manner. As the tribute to  King Oliver was  true to the original but with a personal divided by two,  here, Michel KLOTCHKOFF had a freehand to realize this new repertoire. For the occasion, piano and drums came to complete the original quintet. The result was a great surprise with very varied musical influences. It is exciting for who knows how to go out of the esthetics of Sidney to appreciate it totally.

In 2007, the “VIEIL ORLEANS ORCHESTRA” decided to change its repertoire. The choice concerned the recordings of KING OLIVER’S DIXIE SYNCOPATORS. This “little” big band of a dozen musicians required to be retranscribed for a quintet a robust science of musical arrangements. For this, Georges Billecard asked Michel KLOTCHKOFF. The result exceeds the expectations of the orchestra. This CD, recorded in 2008, makes this repertoire survive and make the contemporary public dance..
